Overall, I like my hair because it does great things when other people do it. But, I live in super humidity, and I simply don't have the patience for sitting around trying to get my hair to look at least half way decent. And, while I do like the curl/wave in my hair, I have secretly always longed for stick-straight hair so I could have a cute short bob or something.
Enter: The CHI straightening iron. My cosmetology instructor friend went to a hair show and picked me up a chi at a discount. It was still $97.50, and I pretty much decided I was completely insane to spend ONE HUNDRED dollars on a hair tool. Yet, something called me to it, and I splurged. And I absolutely can not believe how great it is! It really is true what everyone says about the chi: It works, it leaves hair soft and it stays straight ALL day long! And surprisingly, it didn't take too long for me to do (about 15-20 minutes).
So, I came to school one day last week with my newly ironed hair, and nearly everyone noticed. They asked if I got a haircut or did something different, and several students specifically noticed that I straightened it. And, above all that, everyone complimented me, and I NEVER get compliments on my hair because it's usually entwined in some nasty battle with the humidity, and the humidity always wins. Several students said my hair looked pretty, and I believe them more than anyone else because they never hesitate to tell a teacher when they look like crap. So, they certainly wouldn't extend any extra energy to compliment someone unnecessarily. They also told me I look younger, so that makes me feel good. But it makes me wonder if I just looked like a hagard old woman before. I feel like a new person. Almost.
I also recently purchased several skorts, and have been wearing them to school. The male teachers I work with have a comment nearly every time I walk by, and the straight hair must be the girlie icing on the cake because one teacher commented that I"m losing my tomboy-ness and the guys were unsure what to do with that. I'll take that as a compliment. I also explained it's not a real skirt since there's shorts underneath, but that means nothing to them since they can't see the actual shorts.
So, YAY for the CHI! It's amazing what new hair can do for you, and I'm loving every minute of it!
