Then, I had a small, routine surgery and so my parents came to help me out. It was out-patient, and the first time I had ever been put under, so it was weird for me. So I was down for a couple days for that. Then, 2 days after that, one of my former students was in a roll-over accident while driving to host a little girl's 5 year old birthday party (we were going to the party). She survived, but it wasn't looking great there in those first few hours. Needless to say, it was stressful and I visited her in the hospital a couple of times. All I have to say is Thank God for modern medicine.
Finally when it seemed things were calming down, my very close friend had to go in to have an emergency appendectomy. She is a single Mom (her boys are old enough to take care of themselves), and so I cooked some food for her and hung out with her a little bit.
All of that, coupled with everything else just made for a very overwhelming couple of weeks. It seemed I was going, going, going, and then something else would happen. Thankfully it's Thanksgiving break and we'll have a little down time. Although, I had yet another friend (young - in her 40's) diagnosed with breast cancer, so I"m a little nervous when I get unexpected messages or phone calls from people.
So that's where I've been. I'll be back soon to tell you about how the new kitchen performed for our first holiday celebration!
